NLI holds dinner in honour of Mr. Segun Aganga

Nigeria Leadership Initiative in collaboration with Business in Africa Events is organizing a dinner to honour and celebrate Mr. Olusegun Aganga, the Honourable Minister of Finance, Nigeria for his unique role as the founder of NLI.

The dinner will be holding on the 3rd of September. Attendance is by invitation only.

Call for Nominations

The Nigerian Leadership Initiative (NLI) is officially making a call for Nominations for prospective participants to attend its October 2010 Future Leaders Seminar. The NLI future Leaders Seminar brings together a selected class of Young Nigerian leaders from within Nigeria and the Diaspora for an intensive 3 day residential Seminar.

The NLI Future Leaders Seminar is thought provoking and requires commitment towards transforming Nigeria through socio-economic projects.

The nominated participants will be shortlisted based on the weightings on the nomination forms and be screened to ensure the class has a representation of diverse backgrounds i.e. gender, ethnicity, sector experience etc. Successfully screened nominees will be invited to attend the NLI 3 day residential Future Leaders Seminar from 21st – 23rd October, 2010 at Protea Hotel in Lekki, Lagos Nigeria.

Future Leaders Seminar Selection Criteria

The age range for prospective participants is 25  - 35 years old.

The Nominee should ideally fit a profile with the following characteristics:

  1. Exceptional Quality: Nominee must have made exceptional achievements and/or be successful in their discipline or respective field (i.e. private, public, civil society, the Arts etc)
  2. Future Leadership: Individual (has the potential to be or) is currently placed in a position where he/she may significantly influence the country’s development
  3. Community Spirited: Individual has proven evidence of carrying out community spirited projects/initiatives that have or will have the potential of benefiting Nigeria/Nigerian communities within or outside the country. The person may have spearheaded this project or have been involved as a participant or volunteer.
  4. Availability: Nominee is committed to devoting time and energy to an NLI project after the Seminar.

Wordslam Competition feat. Bouqui, Dare & more

To mark the 50th Year Anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence, the Nigeria Leadership Initiative is organising the Nigeria Word Slam Competition!  For 2010, we are asking the youth to motivate and inspire their fellow Nigerians through their words.  Whether it be poetry, rap or spoken word, we are inviting Nigerians aged 10 to 16 to think about the importance of values, and incorporate 4 of them into their written piece.  The best 10 entries will be compiled into a book.  The writer of the best piece will have the opportunity to work with some of Nigeria’s biggest artists, and have their words produced into a song! The artiste line-up currently includes MI, Bouqui, Dare, Rooftop MCs, TY Bello and Omawumi!

RULES FOR ENTRY

  1. Entrants must be of Nigerian origin, aged 10 – 16
  2. Entrants must compose an original poem, rap or spoken word piece to including at least 4 of the following key values:
    • Integrity
    • Tolerance
    • Discipline
    • Compassion
    • Justice & Equity
    • Patriotism
    • Industry
    • Spirituality
    • Contentment
    • Family values
  3. Entries must be received by 23rd of July 2010.  Entries can be emailed or posted to the following addresses:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  2. NLI reserves the right to use all entries as part of the Nigeria Word Slam Competition.  This may include posting the poem on the organisation’s website, and in the production of the final song, music video and poetry book.  Where work is used, the writer will always be credited.
  3. The Nigeria Leadership Initiative holds the right to choose the top pieces of work.

FCT School Debate Competition in Abuja

NLI is currently implementing debate competitions in Senior Secondary Schools in the FCT, Abuja.  The competitions will encourage the development of values and patriotism amongst students of these schools.  Zonal competitions will be held in each Area Council, while the winners of the zonal competitions will then compete for the top prize in a final.

The winner in each zonal competition stands the chance to win education materials, computers and a trophy. The overall FCT Champion shall be presented with a trophy, additional education materials and will be invited to a forum with Representatives of FCT Administration, NLI and our sponsor Stanbic IBTC Plc.

Notes2Note Premiere

Notes2Note is an animated video about the values of Nigeria’s founding fathers on the Naira notes.  The 20 minute documentary includes video clips, graphics and animation that tell a story of Nigeria’s rich history and core values using Naira Notes (and the Founding Fathers) as illustrative elements.

The narration was performed by Nigerian celebrities of high ethical standard from an array of industries. The following artistes are featured: Kate Henshaw-Nuttall, MI, Sasha, BOUQUI, Omawumi, Aisha Augie-Kuta, TY Bello, Chioma Omeruah (C-Flow) and RoofTop Mcs.

Launch of Notes2Notes – Wednesday, May 26, 2010

The Notes2Note project will launch on May 26, 2010 with a video premiere for invited guests at a Lagos Cinema. A global media premiere will also be done in the evening of the same day on the web and selected TV stations.

NLI Founder, Segun Aganga emerges as the new Chairman of the Board of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund

The Nigeria Leadership Initiative is pleased to announce the appointment of its Founder, Mr. Olusegun Aganga as Nigeria’s Finance Minister effective Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Mr. Aganga has also emerged as the new Chairman of the Board of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

Mr. Aganga, a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in London since 2003 comes into his new positions at a time Nigeria is instituting far-reaching reforms in its financial sector and the world is recovering from an economic crisis.

The NLI is also pleased to announce Senior Fellow, Maryam Uwais’ appointment to Nigeria’s Presidential Advisory Committee.
